Remote working has its perks. It’s a game-changer.
But succeeding while working remotely can be very different as compared to succeeding by working in an office.
Throughout my time working with companies and employees, I uncovered three lessons that you can learn now so that you don’t have to later —>
(1): Understand that there are no shortcuts
The intensity of your work barely changes. There would be the same amount of work that you would need to accomplish.
Those deadlines you hated? They’re still there.
Heck, you might even face more constant micro-management at the beginning. And that’s because now, you're given freedom, independence, and trust.
And you know what they say - with greater freedom comes greater responsibilities.
(2) You need to master your time
Sitting at home might sound like a dream… I mean, think about it. You could:
You can spend time with the kids.
You can make your meals.
You can save money
But if you're not self-disciplined, these benefits will eventually start affecting your:
- Performance
- Productivity
- Focus
Solution? Set time blocks.
Schedule your work into multiple sprints over the course of the day.
Aim to complete as much as you can during each sprint.
Use the breaks in between to recharge and refocus.
(3) Constantly analyze your patterns & habits
Most of us are good at analyzing everything else except ourselves.
But if you truly want to have constant success, you must focus inwards before focusing outwards. Ask yourself the tough questions.
When are you most lazy?
When are you most productive?
What usually distracts you at home?
What usually distracts you in your home office?
Write them down in your notebook, your handphone, or anywhere. You need that visual list staring back at you. Then, you can:
Start by removing those distractions.
Rotate your working time blocks around productive times.
And take breaks during the times you will be least productive.
Learn these three lessons, and you’ll place yourself ahead of the rest. See you next week!
